TVE Internacional is an internationally-broadcast Spanish language channel run by Spain's national broadcaster, TVE. Programming includes a mix of news, discussion-based programmes and drama and documentaries from TVE's La 1 and La 2 Spanish networks. It was launched in 1989. It is broadcast in Spain and worldwide (especially North America, Hispanic Latin America, and Equatorial Guinea).
Several news bulletins are provided during the day, covering a mixed Spanish and International agenda. Telediario is a bulletin produced for and also broadcast in Spain, simulcast on the international station. However, editions of Telediario Internacional are also produced specially for the channel. A daily showbiz magazine, Gente, is broadcast nightly at 7pm GMT.
A limited number of advertisements are shown on the channel. More usually, network commercial breaks on programmes broadcast live in Spain are covered with a clock and short information films about Spain and its wildlife, although sometimes the advertisements are shown.
In Europe, it is available in the clear on the Astra 1L, Eutelsat Hot Bird 2, and Hispasat 1C satellites at 19.2° east, 13° East, and 30° West respectively. The channel can no longer be seen in Britain and Ireland through the Sky television platform on Eutelsat Eurobird at 28.5° East. In the Americas, it is available as part of RTVE's Digital Package for America on Hispasat 1C (encrypted). In Asia, it is available on AsiaSat 2 at 100.5° E and PanAmSat 8 at 166° E (both in the clear).
In October 2009 a separate version of the TV channel to broadcast via the W4 satellite to Ukrainian TV viewers was especially created. This was done because on November 1, 2008 the Ukrainian Television and Radio Broadcasting Council demanded that (Ukrainian) cable operators remove Russian TV channels that did not adopt the Ukrainian legislation from their broadcasting lists. The decision affected, in particular, RTR-Planeta, Channel One and TV Center.[1]
On May 1, 2010, RTR Planeta returned to the Ukrainian cable networks.
